Welcome to Holy Communion
Church
of the Holy Communion welcomes all persons. We strive to ensure
that all who enter our parish church feel the sacred presence of
Christ. You are invited to participate fully in the life of this
community, particularly in worship, small groups and in opportunities
to serve others. You can become a member by notifying us that you
intend to participate regularly in worship and to share your resources
with this parish. There are visitor cards in the pews on which you
can indicate your desire to join. Place it in the alms basin or
hand it to an usher.
How do I become a member?
If you are interested in becoming a member here at Holy Communion
the process begins by contacting Greg Ward.
If you are already a baptized or confirmed Episcopalian, the office
will request a letter of transfer from your last Episcopal church.
This letter will transfer your membership to Church of the Holy
Communion. If you have been baptized in another Christian denomination
we can recognize you as a baptized member. Simply let us know the
denomination and date of your baptism. If you wish to consider becoming
a confirmed Episcopalian, or to be received into the Episcopal Church
from another faith tradition, contact Greg
Ward to enroll in our annual Inquirer’s Class.
Is Confirmation for me?
Confirmation is an important sacramental rite in the church
and is a step one can take to make a mature public affirmation
of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of Baptism
and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. (Book
of Common Prayer, page 412.) Those interested in being confirmed
prepare by taking our Inquirer's Class. The class is held in the
spring with the bishops visit usually following in late May.
Many lifelong Episcopalians choose to take the Inquirers
Class to reaffirm their faith. For more information, contact Laurie
Harwell.
What if Im interested in Baptism for
myself or my child?
Our Book of Common Prayer designates certain days in the church
year as being especially appropriate for the celebration of Holy
Baptism. These are: the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (first
Sunday after the Epiphany), the Easter Vigil (Saturday night before
Easter), the Day of Pentecost, and All Saints Day or the Sunday
after All Saints. While we hope to reserve Holy Baptism for
these special days, exceptions can be made. For more information,
contact Katherine Bush.
No matter your status,
This I Believe class fits the bill
If you are brand new, this class is for you. If you have been
attending CHC your whole life, this class is for you. If youve
been in and out or hanging around the edges, this class is for you.
If you are a member ready to take things to the next level, this
class is for you. If you grew up in another tradition and have some
questions about what makes The Episcopal Church tick, this class
is for you.
Really? youre asking yourself, How is
all that possible? This I Believe is a class where well
explore our individual ideas about faith and learn about the Episcopal
Churchs grand traditions.
This is both a refresher course and an introductory course. This
series will lead some people to make a public and liturgical affirmation
of their faith when our Bishop comes to visit. This I Believe will
give all participants a chance to connect with fellow parishioners
and to articulate what we individually hold most dear.
Springing from the NPR radio series of the same name, we will
look at the faith statements of saints known and unknown, and participants
will also work on writing their own this I believe declarations.
Whether or not you are considering Confirmation or new membership
at CHC everyone who comes will be asked to think about their own
this I believe statement. Some people will then be ready
to become confirmed members; some will just be glad they spent the
time reflecting and exploring.
Make no mistake, this IS an inquirers class
where well take a good look at what the Episcopal Church is
all about. Well unpack our history and examine the creeds
the ultimate this we believe sources. This class
will help to prepare those who are ready to formalize their membership
in the Church through Confirmation, and we will welcome the Bishop
for the Feast of Pentecost with Baptisms and Confirmations on Sunday,
May 23 at 10:00.
But as you might imagine, this conversation is not just for newcomers!
This is an opportunity for anyone and everyone to consider their
own personal faith journey and to discover how to name our core
beliefs. This I Believe will meet on two tracks: Sundays, April
11 May 16 at 10:15 in the Carrick Room or Wednesdays, April
14 May 12 at 6:30 in the Carrick Room. Class participants
are asked to commit to one track for the duration, though you can
make up a missed session at the alternate time. Contact
Katherine Bush at 767-6987.
