Spirituality
West and East Increasingly, Christians in the western world are becoming
aware of the need to develop their spiritual lives. But in a tradition that is
so firmly oriented toward belief and doctrine, finding the resources for spiritual
practice is not easy. For this reason, many Christians have begun to seek the
wisdom of other religious traditions to help them understand and navigate the
interior life. As they do, they often discover that the practices and disciplines
of other traditions have their counterparts in some of the less prominent aspects
of Christianity. Mark Muesse will address these emerging concerns in a series
on spirituality in the worlds religions. Muesse will discuss the meaning,
value and practice of a wide range of observances, including: prayer and meditation;
asceticism, purification of the mind and silence; iconography and images; and
mystical writing and poetry. |

An
opportunity to learn more about the Episcopal Church... Episcopalians
have a rich worship tradition with ancient roots. Our worship is intended to be
highly participatory, involving the whole person and all our senses. But it can
be hard to participate if you are not sure why we do some of the things we do
in our worship. In this series, Its Hard to Genuflect With a Latte in
Your Hand, Jerry Harber spoke about Anglican liturgical
traditions and customs, with special attention to customs in our worship at Church
of the Holy Communion. The rector, Gary Jones, reflected
on what some of these customs might signify about Anglican theology and spirituality.
